So what is Nature Based Wellness?

Nature-based wellness is all about using the natural world—like forests, parks, gardens, the beach and even fresh air—to support physical, mental, and emotional health. It includes things like walking in the woods, gardening, outdoor relaxation techniques, forest bathing or simply spending quiet time in nature.

The Benefits:

  • Reduces stress and anxiety – Nature has a calming effect on the nervous system.

  • Boosts mood and mental clarity – Sunshine and fresh air can lift your spirits and clear your mind.

  • Improves physical health – Activities like walking or gardening keep the body moving in gentle, healthy ways.

  • Enhances sleep and energy levels – Being outdoors helps reset your internal clock and improve sleep.

  • Builds connection – Whether it’s with yourself, others, or the environment, time in nature deepens our sense of connection.

  • No it’s more about experiencing nature with all the senses, noticing what’s around us. Slowing down and allowing nature to gently calm and regulate our nervous system.

  • We all like to get out in the sunshine but living in Ireland we also know that the sun doesn’t shine all year round so there will be times where Mother Nature does her thing and most programmes will go ahead regardless. Good outdoor gear and a love of nature is all part of it. There’s a beautiful word for the smell of the earth after rainfall, it’s called “Petrichor”……magical!!
